We venture to the heart of Western Australia’s wine country, Margaret River. Our destination: Passel Estate, a boutique winery with a brand new story to tell.
Showcasing the Estate Magic
Owned by Wendy and Barry, Passel Estate is more than just a winery, it’s a place where exceptional winemaking meets environmental stewardship.
Our brief was to create a comprehensive marketing image library, capturing everything from the sweeping vineyard views to the intimate tasting room experience. These images would become the visual foundation for their new website, print advertising, and large-scale wall prints.
Winery Photography in All Areas of Operation
We had two days for this photoshoot. With the golden light of Margaret River on our side, we photographed every aspect of the estate—the vineyard where the grapes thrive, the winery where the magic happens, and the tasting room where visitors immerse themselves in the experience.
This estate is fortunate to have soil comprising classic gravelly loams over clay that help the production of the fruit iconic to this region.
Adding to the estate’s uniqueness is its on-site possum sanctuary, home to Western ringtail possums rescued after the devastating 2011 bushfires. This sanctuary contains some of the oldest peppermint trees in the region. The hope is this sanctuary will be home to many other native species.
Roadtesting New Equipment
This shoot was also an exciting milestone for us, as we had two new creative tools in hand.
For the first time, we took to the skies with our newly acquired drone, bringing a fresh perspective to our storytelling. Matt and Henry had recently gone back to school (drone school that is) and completed their CASA commercial drone pilot licences, allowing us to capture stunning aerial views of the estate. (This was 2016, and our first drone was a DJI Phantom called “Matilda”).
We also introduced the Osmo. It’s a gimbal-stabilised camera that let us follow the action with smooth, dynamic movement.
Why This Episode Matters
Exploring Passel Estate was a privilege. It was inspiring to document a winery so deeply connected to both its craft and its environment.
